Finally, spring is here and you’re feeling motivated to redecorate that room you’ve been neglecting. First order of business- choosing paint colors. O.K., now you’re remembering why you’ve put off doing something with this room. Applying paint to walls requires a huge commitment to that color choice, so many of us stay in the beige zone just to be safe. If you want to add some color to your life, here are some ways to do it. Choose something from the space that will be a “jump off” point of inspiration to pull color choices, such as a dominant piece of artwork or large area rug. Using the color wheel approach will help determine if you want a complementary color scheme, or a more soothing analogous feel. Now, apply the 60/30/10 rule- 60% is the dominant color of the room, 30% is the secondary choice (maybe an accent wall, or introduced through furniture pieces or draperies) and 10% is the accent color, which provides a pop of visual interest and can be in the form of select accent pieces.

Everything you need to have a great time is already within your reach. Long after the gifts received are a distant memory, it will be the laughter and stories shared that live on. Create lasting memories and a new tradition with a holiday journal. Everyone can share a story of a past holiday experience, and add something new. Spending a lot of money to re-purpose a room will not necessarily make your home more valuable. Converting a mudroom into a first floor laundry room may not spell value to prospective buyers. However, adding organized storage cabinetry and shelving can create added space in a home. The addition of storage and living space will certainly meet with approval. Whether or not you have plans to sell your home in the immediate future, it is not advisable to proceed with a project without considering if it will add value.
